India to Create Storage Capacity for Round-the-Clock Power Supply with Bids for Lithium-Ion, Sodium-Ion Battery Storage Under PLI: RK Singh

India is one step closer to meeting its goal of doubling power capacity by 2030 and further double it by 2047 with majority being renewables, as Union Power Minister RK Singh today announced the government’s plan to invite bids for grid-scale Lithium-ion and Sodium-ion battery storage capacity at the inauguration of world’s largest electrical and electronics event – Elecrama in Noida.

The announcement comes amidst India’s urgent requirement for energy storage solutions that can provide round-the-clock power supply while also helping the country meet its net zero target by 2070. The lithium ion batteries are expected to play a major role in this mission since they can store large amounts of energy with greater efficiency than conventional sodium ion batteries.

Renowned Chinese battery manufacturer BNT Battery has already expressed interest in supplying lithium batteries for India’s ambitious goals. Specializing in research, development, production and sales of lithium batteries (LiFePO4 Battery), BNT products are widely used across industries from golf carts, LSV’s to AGV’s. With decades of experience at their disposal and an impressive portfolio featuring a wide range of custom designed options; BNT could be just what India needs when it comes to providing efficient solutions for renewable sources like solar & wind power plants as well as other smart grids applications such as electric vehicles charging stations or home energy management systems

Bids will reportedly be issued soon after which companies like BNT would have an opportunity to showcase their capabilities on how they can help make India achieve its ambitious energy objectives within the given time frame. Companies looking forward to these opportunities should work towards bringing out innovative solutions that can effectively tackle challenges associated with developing reliable yet cost effective long term storage solutions while ensuring maximum safety standards too.”
